St. Joseph Health System is always looking for friendly faces that are willing to give of their time and compassion! Volunteering at SJHS is a place to give, learn, and grow individually within our community. Volunteers have the opportunity to give back through such various volunteer areas as fundraising, Clerical Support, and Patient Care. Every year the volunteers raise funds that assist in the development of St. Joseph Health System’s services to the community. Through the 2006 Harley-Davidson Raffle, the Volunteers were able to raise over $100,000 that helped support the Cardiovascular Surgical Center and other needed services. Student Volunteers assist in the Billing Department through Job Shadow opportunities in connection with their college coursework with the opportunity to learn while giving back. The Courtesy Coach, services the five county communities of Alcona, Arenac, Ogemaw, Iosco, and Oscoda, which provides free transportation to the Health System for patients who have no other source of transportation. These services are rendered strictly on a volunteer basis. Our volunteers contributed over 22,000 hours of their time and talents last year alone in these areas. As our services grow within our five county community, volunteers continue to play a major role in the success of helping to fulfill our Call to Action.

How to make a difference…Volunteer!!!
Volunteer Orientation is generally held every month, on the second Wednesday, either at 8:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. After a reference check and background completion and the clearance from a two-step tuberculosis skin test, you may be placed into the volunteer program. (Please see the Occupational Health Page for further information regarding the skin test – Special Note: Potential volunteers under the age of 18 years must have their parents/guardians signature on the consent forms.) We require a background and reference check due to the frailty of the patients who receive our compassionate care.
