St. Joseph Health System (SJHS) offers basic medical cardiology services for the community it serves.  These services include various diagnostic testing options supported by the Cardiopulmonary and Radiology Departments as well as current treatment options and treatment support. The specific diagnostic and treatment modalities offered include:

  1. 12-lead EKG testing and 24-hour or longer Holter event monitoring with interpretation for both

  2. Stress testing and nuclear medicine stress testing with interpretation

  3. Plain and nuclear echocardiograms with interpretation

  4. Exercise tolerance testing

  5. Peripheral vascular and cardiac radiologic tests including ultrasound, Cardiac CTA and CT, and MRI studies

  6. Invasive peripheral vascular procedures requiring nurse monitored conscious sedation and a radiologist trained and skilled in performing these types of procedures.

  7. Rehabilitation services provides ongoing monitored exercise programs for those community members who have completed a formal cardiac rehabilitation program but still need support to continue with an exercise program.

  8. Pharmacist managed Coumadin Clinic which enables our patients to receive ongoing expert medication monitoring and adjustment when receiving blood thinning medications to combat cardiac and peripheral vascular blood clot formation.

  9. Local Home Health program to support those cardiac patients returning from in-hospital care who need nursing, rehabilitation, and/or social service support.

SJHS also offers a cardiology specialty clinic with the support of a cardiologist from MCVI.  This clinic allows our community to have cardiology assessment and follow-up done with appropriate referrals for surgical or other invasive cardiovascular treatments to close by tertiary centers.  Our internal medicine, family practice, and emergency department physicians are well trained to handle most chronic cardiac, peripheral vascular and pulmonary conditions enabling our community to remain close to home for ongoing treatment and monitoring.  Thru the specialty cardiac clinic the health system medical staff has positive ongoing working relationships with the cardiologists of MCVI enabling our community to receive timely referrals for advanced cardiac care whenever needed.

SJHS is in the process of developing a strategic business plan to expand its cardiovascular service line in order to better meet the medical needs of the community it serves.
