Pulmonary Rehab

What is Pulmonary Rehab?

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is an outpatient program designed to meet the needs of patient's with chronic pulmonary disease and to optimize their care. The program is covered by most insurances, including Medicare, and requires a physician referral. Our team of professionals includes a physician, registered nurse and registered respiratory therapist.

What does the program offer?

Phase II Pulmonary Rehab runs for 12 weeks and consists of two components. Sessions are scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays.
In the first step, the participant will be in classes for the first 8 sessions and then go to the exercise floor. In the second step, exercise is the key component with no further formal classroom sessions. The exercise program is individualized based upon the patient's medical condition, initial fitness level and medical history. The sessions are monitored by telemetry, blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen level, respiratory rate, rate of perceived exertion (RPE), rate of perceived dyspnea (RPD) and pain scale prior to session, after each modality and at exercise recovery.

• Home Exercise Program
• Smoking Cessation
• Advanced Care Planning
• Respiratory Medications, Proper Technique of Multi Dose Inhalers (MDI's), Spacers, Diskus, Nebulizers
• Energy Conservation
• Stress Management
• Pulmonary Hygiene and Preventing Infection
• Nutrition
• Oxygen
• Sexuality/Intimacy
• Emotions

What does the facility offer?
• Scott Care Tele Rehab monitoring system
• Bright atmosphere
• Terry cloth hand towels and water cooler are available
• Individualized training to improve strength and fitness
• Patients are encouraged to continue their exercise prescription through Phase III after completion of Phase II until they are comfortable to enter community exercise program, or they may choose to remain in the Phase III maintenance program

Pulmonary Rehab is focused on patients with the following conditions with qualifying Pulmonary Function Test values:
• Asthma
• Bronchiectasis
• Chronic Airway Obstruction
• Chronic Bronchitis
• Emphysema
• Pulmonary Fibrosis
• Cystic Fibrosis
• Interstitial lung disease
• Lung transplant/lung volume reduction surgery
• Occupational/Environmental lung disease
• Sarcoidosis
• Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency

You will want to contact your insurance carrier to determine if Pulmonary Rehab is a covered service for you. The insurance carrier may ask for procedural codes for Pulmonary Rehab. The ones used most often in the program are: GO237 and GO238. Other codes used less frequently are 94667, 94664, 97150, and GO239.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Schedule:
Patient Orientation by Appointment duration is approximately 2 hours

Exercise Sessions:
Scheduled on Wednesday and Friday
Sessions run for 2 hours at:
900 am; 1 pm, and 3 pm
Pulmonary Rehabilitation is closed from 12 until 1 to permit staff lunch
